Technology joy!

It’s been intermittently playing up but as of last evening the iPhone just gave up the ghost on recharging.. It simply wouldn’t do it.  Now this is pretty fundamental to a device.  So today its a trip to the city, the parting of a substantial wodge of cash and now…the deep joy (I am of course being deeply ironic here) of setting it up.  And of course my most recent back up to iTunes is month’s old…and of course the amusingly titled ‘Lightening connector’ won’t work at all now on the old handset so of course I can’t back up the recent settings so that the restore is a recent one!  Don’t you just love the technology nowadays!

A calming picture might help a little!

Deadly Delicious – facture

epidemic3

The third completed work in the new aluminium Deadly Delicious pictures.  This one is much looser than the earlier works on canvas and paradoxically has a great deal more facture than the canvases despite the flatness of the support.  In part this is down to the processes deployed and the choice of material.  It has got me to thinking that the materiality and ‘objectness’ of painting is an increasing delight in a world where technology is steadily reducing the consumption of images onto the glassy surface of the tablet… I guess that’s why we do it…

My (very) partial knowledge of the new technologies…

I made these images this very afternoon in the studio…using the EyeEm ‘app’ on the iphone.  But then I couldn’t see a way to save them onto the computer so I could easily put them into this blog.  I have this trouble a lot…I have just about enough info to use all these new fangled things in a rudimentary fashion but sometimes I just don’t get it…

I ended up emailing them to myself!  There must be a simpler way to do it…

The app was picked up through the people behind it one of whom is working in Derby right now at the Format Photography Festival.
