A postcript…

In the centre of the first lobby beyond the bookshop in Kassel’s Neue Gallery was a cracking example of Sean Scully‘s Wall of Light paintings.  As the D13 exhibits were either in the basement or on the first floor of the building traffic through this space and into the galleries beyond was very light indeed.  Inevitably I spent a few quiet moments here musing on the ways in which much of the ethos and ambience of so many contemporary art extravaganzas seem to run diametrically opposite to the intentions of a painting such as this that invites so much contemplation and gives up its secrets slowly and quietly over time…

And now I’m definitely outta here…
